Groups agree to develop tourist park
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Conservation International Indonesia and the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly manage the Sibolangit Natural Tourist Park in the province.
The agreement was signed on Friday as part of the two institutions' efforts to develop the park as a natural conservation education center.
The head of the conservation agency, Awen Supranata, said a number of natural conservation programs would be implemented in the park.
Jatna Supriatna of Conservation International Indonesia said the country should learn from the devastating flood in Bohorok subdistrict, North Sumatra, which killed more than 130 people.
He said Indonesians had to be serious in protecting the environment. --JP
