Group D Profile: Balanced Teams Set to Compete
As the host nation, the team nicknamed ‘The Yanks’ faces pressure to perform at their best in front of their home crowd.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Group D of the 2026 World Cup brings together the host nation, the United States, with Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey. On paper, these teams possess relatively balanced strengths and will compete to advance from the group stage.
The FIFA website stated on Thursday that the group presents an interesting competition as it brings together representatives from four different confederations: CONCACAF (North America, Central America, and the Caribbean), CONMEBOL (South America), AFC (Asia-Oceania), and UEFA (Europe).
All four countries arrive with a combination of experience, a new generation of players, and the ambition to go far in the world’s biggest football tournament.
In this edition, which will be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico, from June 11th to July 20th, the four teams will compete to make history.
As a co-host nation with Canada and Mexico, the US is the favorite in the group.
Meanwhile, Paraguay returns to the final round after last appearing in the 2010 edition in South Africa. Australia continues its consistency as a regular participant, and Turkey returns after a 24-year absence, since the 2002 edition in South Korea-Japan.
