Grobogan Primary School Roof Collapses Due to Termite Damage, Students Forced to Study in Prayer Room

The roof of two rooms at SD Negeri Tanggirejo in Tegowanu, Grobogan, collapsed earlier this year. Teaching and learning activities have been relocated to the school’s musala (prayer room) to ensure student safety.

“(The roof collapsed because the supports) were eaten by termites. If you listened, you could hear a ‘krekes krekes krekes’ sound,” said the Head of SD Negeri Tanggirejo, Juwariyah, when contacted by detikJateng on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

Juwariyah explained that the first room to suffer a roof collapse was the teachers’ and headmaster’s office. The incident occurred in January.

“Thankfully, it happened at night. The southernmost part of the teachers’ room collapsed in January this year. It can no longer be used,” Juwariyah said.

The second room to experience a similar fate was the sixth-grade classroom. According to Juwariyah, the roof of that classroom collapsed in April.

“The sixth-grade classroom, it just happened recently, around April,” Juwariyah stated.

As a result of these incidents, Juwariyah was forced to relocate the students’ learning activities to the musala. Meanwhile, the teachers and headmaster are using the library as a temporary office.

“I moved the sixth grade to a separate room, placed the fifth grade in the musala, and the teachers’ room has been moved to the library,” Juwariyah explained.

Separately, the Head of the Grobogan Regency Education Office, Purnyomo, said his office had received initial information regarding the condition of SD Tanggirejo. He plans to inspect the site tomorrow.

“The Korwil (area coordinator) visited the school yesterday to check the condition of the building, then conveyed the information about the school’s condition to the office through the Head of Primary School Development,” Purnyomo said via WhatsApp message to detikJateng.

“To obtain more complete and valid information, the Head of Primary School Development will conduct a direct field inspection at SDN Tanggirejo tomorrow,” he added.
