Grobogan Declares 184-Day Drought Emergency Alert Status

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the Grobogan Regency Government, Central Java, has established an emergency alert status for handling drought and forest and land fire disasters for 184 days as a basis for implementing mitigation measures against the impacts of the dry season. Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre Abdul Muhari in Jakarta on Friday said the establishment of the emergency alert status is officially stipulated under Grobogan Regent Decree Number 100.3.3.2/418/2026. “The emergency alert status is effective from 1 May to 31 October 2026, serving as the basis for implementing mitigation measures and handling the impacts of the dry season,” he said. This tactical step was taken following the onset of a clean water crisis in several locations due to the recent dry season. The dry season has also caused a decrease in the discharge of rivers that serve as the community’s water source. Therefore, BNPB hopes the establishment of this emergency alert status can optimise the deployment of resources to handle and minimise the widespread impact of drought in Grobogan Regency. Based on area mapping, Gedangan Village in Wirosari District is the area most severely affected by the drought. The BNPB Operations Control Centre confirmed that 55 families are struggling to obtain clean water for their daily needs. Abdul mentioned that as a rapid response measure under the emergency alert framework, the Grobogan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has carried out direct water supply distribution to residential areas. “A total of 10,500 litres of clean water was supplied using three tanker truck fleets,” he said.
