Griffin ahead in Tour d'Indonesia
CIREBON: Paul Griffin of Giant Asia of Chinese Taipei took possession of the yellow jersey after the Bandung-Cirebon first stage of the US$100,000 Dji Sam Soe Tour d'Indonesia on Monday.
The 32-year-old Irish rider also received $545 for the fastest time of three hours, seven minutes and 10 seconds over the 134.1 kilometers in West Java, Antara news service reported.
Next up were Robin Reid of Greenfield Fresh Milk Club and third place Kai Tsun Lam of Purathram Hong Kong Club.
Sprinter Michael Carter of Greenfield Fresh Milk received the green jersey.
The best finishers among national riders were Kaswanto of Custom Cycling Team, Radius Ginting of Benteng Muda Group and Rohmat Nugraha of Dodol Picnic, who finished seventh, eighth and ninth.
Tuesday's stage is from Cirebon to Purwokerto, covering 187.5km. The tour ends in Gilimanuk, Bali, on Sept. 21. -- JP
