GRIB Jaya Explains Hercules' Presence After 27 August Demonstration: Maintaining Jakarta's Conduciveness

The United Indonesia People’s Movement (GRIB) Jaya has issued a clarification regarding the circulation of several videos showing GRIB Jaya Chairman Rosario de Marshall, also known as Hercules, together with members of the public in a field following the expression of aspirations on 27 August 2026.

Wilson Colling, S.H., M.H., of the GRIB Jaya Central Executive Board’s Legal Division, stressed that the presence of Hercules and his team at the location was not to participate in any unrest. According to him, their presence was part of a persuasive effort to monitor the situation and maintain a conducive environment.

Wilson asked the public to view Hercules’ presence based on the context and security conditions that occurred that night. He also reminded the public not to draw conclusions based solely on video clips, one-sided narratives, or unverified information.

“The presence was part of a persuasive effort to monitor the situation and maintain a conducive environment, not to aggravate the situation, carry out provocations, or engage in physical clashes,” said Wilson in his statement.

According to Wilson, organisationally GRIB Jaya has never given instructions to its members to participate in demonstrations or carry out activities related to the actions on 27 August 2026.

He said the instructions of the GRIB Jaya Chairman had been conveyed clearly and firmly and published through the organisation’s internal media.

Therefore, Wilson considers that a person’s presence at the scene cannot be directly regarded as a representation of the organisation’s actions.

Moreover, according to him, there needs to be evidence showing an order, coordination, or concrete action related to a criminal offence before the involvement of an organisation or an individual can be concluded.

GRIB Jaya also provided an explanation regarding the “go home” calls heard in one of the videos circulating on social media.

Wilson said the statement must be viewed in its entirety, including based on the time, place, conditions on the ground, and the sequence of events before and after the statement was made.

According to him, the call to go home can be interpreted as an appeal to the public or the masses to leave the location in an orderly manner when the situation was no longer conducive.
