GRIB Jaya Explains 'Go Home' Call at Protest Site, Says It Was to Prevent Friction
The United Indonesia People’s Movement (GRIB) Jaya has provided an explanation regarding the ‘go home’ calls heard in a video showing the situation around the DPR building in Central Jakarta on Thursday (27/8/2026).
Wilson Colling of the GRIB Jaya central board’s legal division said the calls were an appeal to residents or protesters still at the location to leave the area in an orderly manner.
The explanation was issued following the circulation of a video on social media showing the situation after the public expression of opinion on 27 August 2026.
‘Regarding the ’go home’ calls heard in the circulating video, the public needs to understand the context of those words in full,’ Wilson said in a written statement on Saturday (28/8/2026).
According to Wilson, the calls cannot be separated from the conditions at the location at the time. The ‘go home’ appeal was said to be directed at residents or protesters who were still around the location after the time limit for expressing opinions had ended.
GRIB Jaya considers that the call to leave the location in an orderly manner can be a step to keep the situation conducive, especially when conditions began to have the potential to cause friction.
‘The call to ’go home’ can actually be interpreted as an appeal for the public or protesters to leave the location in an orderly manner when the situation was no longer conducive,’ Wilson said.
He explained that the appeal was delivered as a preventive measure to prevent a larger conflict.
‘The call to disperse peacefully is a preventive action that can rationally be directed at preventing a larger conflict,’ he explained.
Accordingly, GRIB Jaya asked that the calls recorded in the video not be understood separately from the situation that occurred on the ground.
Wilson also highlighted the spread of video clips on social media, which he said could potentially lead to different conclusions if the context of the incident is not fully known.
According to him, a statement needs to be viewed based on the time, location, conditions during the event, and the intention of the person who delivered it.
In the context of the ‘go home’ call, GRIB Jaya described the statement as an appeal for the public to leave the location in an orderly manner when the situation was no longer conducive.
