At an event held in the courtyard of Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium, the Gresik Regency Government, together with labour unions, adopted a more humane approach through thanksgiving, joint prayers, and the strengthening of shared commitments to maintain regional stability and sustainable development.

Gresik Regent Fandi Akhmad Yani stressed that the May Day moment must be interpreted as a space for collaboration between the government, the business world, and workers in realising shared prosperity.

“This 1 May commemoration serves as a reminder that worker welfare is our collective priority. Therefore, I invite all parties to continue maintaining regional conduciveness, so that Gresik remains a safe, comfortable, and investment-friendly area,” Yani stated in a written remark on Saturday (2/5/2026).

As a concrete form of strengthening this synergy, a joint commitment was signed between the Gresik Regency Government and labour unions across Gresik Regency.

This commitment includes several strategic steps, such as promoting the strengthening of labour regulations, improving social security protection for workers, optimising the absorption of local labour, and enhancing a fair industrial relations system.

The Gresik Regency Government also emphasised its focus on improving human resource quality through strengthening worker competencies and skills. On the other hand, the implementation of Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2022 on employment opportunities continues to be optimised, with a minimum target of 60 percent of the workforce coming from local residents.

“When our human resources become increasingly competent and employment opportunities are widely open to Gresik residents, prosperity will grow sustainably,” Yani asserted.

In addition, the Gresik Regency Government, together with tripartite elements, will strengthen monitoring of labour recruitment and optimise the role of the Labour Quick Reaction Unit (URC) Team in early detection of potential violations of workers’ normative rights, to maintain harmonious industrial relations.

Chairman of the 2026 May Day Celebration Committee, Subari, expressed appreciation for the support from the Gresik Regency Government, the business world, and all parties who have contributed to the success of this event.

“This May Day moment is filled with positive activities as a form of gratitude, while also strengthening collaboration in development,” Subari said.

Subari also emphasised that this year’s commemoration symbolises the maturity of industrial relations in Gresik, where workers, government, and entrepreneurs are able to sit together in a harmonious and constructive atmosphere.

Not only rich in meaning, the atmosphere of togetherness was also felt through various entertainment activities. The event featured a raffle of various attractive prizes for participants, including the main doorprize of one commercial motorcycle unit and one motor vehicle, which was enthusiastically received by the workers.
