Green SM's Official Statement on Train Accident Tragedy Lacks Words of Condolence or Apology
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The electric taxi service Green SM Indonesia became the talk of the town on Monday night (27/4/2026) following the tragic collision where the Argo Bromo train struck a KRL commuter line at Bekasi Timur Station. This occurred shortly after another collision nearby at a level crossing, involving an operator from the same group as the Vietnamese automaker Vinfast. All of Green SM Indonesia’s fleet uses the Vinfast brand.
The initial collision happened at a level crossing not far from Bekasi Timur Station. According to Titin, the owner of a shop located about 50 metres from the scene, the incident began around 8:50 PM on Monday night.
She recounted that initially, a green taxi from the Green SM electric taxi service was passing from north to south. “When it was in the middle of the railway crossing, the taxi broke down,” said Titin when met by Republika at the location.
Shortly afterwards, there was a warning for the commuter line from Cikarang towards Jakarta approaching. But the taxi remained unable to move. The crossing guard was busy warning that a train was coming through. “He tried to push it too, but the taxi wouldn’t move,” said Titin.
The taxi was then dragged about 50 metres towards the station. The train that struck it also stopped according to usual procedures.
While the vehicle was still blocking the tracks, around the same time, the KRL from Jakarta to Cikarang was dropping off and picking up passengers at Bekasi Timur Station. But shortly after departing, the driver apparently saw the stopped train.
The doors of the commuter line from Jakarta to Cikarang were opened briefly. Passengers got out to look. At that moment, the commuter line was struck from behind by the long-distance Argo Bromo train heading to Surabaya.
