Police have named the Green SM taxi driver, who was pinned by a KRL at a level crossing near Bekasi Timur Station, as a suspect. The suspect, the Green SM taxi driver, was not detained. ‘That’s correct. We have named the taxi driver as a suspect,’ said Gefri Agitia, head of the Metro Bekasi City Police’s Traffic Unit, to reporters on Thursday (21 May 2026). Gefri said the suspect was charged under Article 310(1) with a penalty of under five years’ imprisonment. The taxi driver was named a suspect because he was deemed negligent and caused losses. ‘Under Article 310(1) however we did not detain the driver. Why? The sentence is under five years. A crash caused by negligence resulting in material damage carries a maximum sentence of six months’ imprisonment with a Rp 1 million fine. That is what we have decided,’ he said. Gefri explained there are two cases in the incident involving the KRL–KA Argo Bromo Anggrek crash and the Green SM taxi being trapped at the level crossing. ‘For Satlantas, there is no connection between the incident at the station and the train at Ampera, because there is a time gap. The time gap is about 10 minutes,’ he explained. ‘And at the level crossing, that crossing is also different. Between the rail crossing involved in the car accident, and the crossing for trains heading from Jakarta to Cikarang, the crossings are different,’ he added. Gefri explained that Satlantas of the Bekasi City Metro Police is handling the Green SM taxi being trapped at the level crossing. ‘So we cannot equate them. As for the railway matter, those more likely to understand it are the detectives, or KNKT, who can draw conclusions,’ he said. ‘If we in Satlantas, regarding the handling of traffic accidents, at the time of the incident, in particular the Green taxi, there were no fatalities among the train or taxi occupants, that’s how he concluded.’ As has been known, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27 April). The incident killed 16 people and injured 90 others. At the time of the crash, the Green SM taxi briefly stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to an electrical fault, then was struck by the KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta. The KRL involved in the collision then stopped in the middle of the tracks. Separately, a KRL heading toward Cikarang stopped at Bekasi Timur Station as a result of the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the Green SM taxi. The KRL that stopped at Bekasi Timur Station was then struck by the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek travelling from Jakarta.
