The office compound of the Traffic Police Unit (Satlantas) at Kampar Police Resort under Riau Police Command presents a distinctive sight. The compound has been transformed into a hydroponic vegetable garden.

Fresh green vegetables are neatly arranged in pipe panels throughout the Satlantas office compound. Members of the public who visit are permitted to harvest vegetables free of charge.

The hydroponic garden represents the implementation of Green Policing, a programme launched by Riau Police Commander Inspector General Herry Heryawan. The presence of the hydroponic garden also demonstrates that police offices can serve as food production facilities.

“This hydroponic garden is an implementation of the Green Policing programme of the Riau Police Commander,” said Chief of Traffic Police at Kampar Police Resort, Senior Police Commissioner Wuldan, in a statement on Friday (27 February 2026).

The flourishing hydroponic garden at the Satlantas compound is not merely decorative. Senior Commissioner Wulan explained that the facility is the result of genuine collaboration between the police institution and students from State Vocational School 1 Kuok.

“We conducted a harvest of hydroponic vegetables today. It should be noted that this hydroponic garden is the fruit of our cooperation with SMKN 1 Kuok,” said Senior Commissioner Wulan.

Notably, the harvest is not sold but rather dedicated entirely to members of the public who visit the police office. Every person applying for a driving licence or resident attending to matters at Satlantas Polres Kampar is permitted to harvest and take home vegetables without any charge whatsoever.

“We have allocated these vegetables for members of the public who are obtaining a driving licence or visiting Satlantas Polres Kampar. Anyone is welcome to harvest them free of charge,” added Senior Commissioner Wulan warmly.

One resident undergoing driving licence procedures appeared surprised and delighted when personally greeted by the Chief of Traffic Police. “We happen to be harvesting now, please help yourself to the vegetables,” said Wulan.

The Green Policing programme aims to create a pleasant and productive police office environment. Beyond creating a cool atmosphere and removing the perception of rigidity from the police office, the garden produce serves as a positive stimulus in the emotional relationship between officers and the public.

Through partnership with SMKN 1 Kuok, Satlantas Polres Kampar also supports modern agricultural education for young people, whilst delivering more humane public service functions with direct benefit to the household needs of the community.
