Green Hydrogen Opens Industrial and Aviation Market Opportunities
PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) has begun building a green hydrogen ecosystem as part of its long-term strategy to support the national energy transition. Through technology development, strategic partnerships, and an integrated business model, PLN EPI is targeting the low-carbon hydrogen market for the industrial sector, power generation, and sustainable aviation fuel (electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel/e-SAF). PLN EPI Vice President of Biomass Strategy and Business Development Anita Puspita Sari explained that hydrogen is a key pillar in the PLN Group’s 2060 Net Zero Emissions (NZE) roadmap. After strengthening bioenergy development through the biomass co-firing programme, PLN EPI is now expanding its primary energy business portfolio by building a green hydrogen value chain as a new source of growth for the company. “In addition to continuing to develop renewable energy, nuclear power, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), energy storage, and the Green Energy Super Grid, the PLN Group is also making hydrogen and ammonia part of its long-term strategy to support a low-carbon energy system,” Anita said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. According to Anita, hydrogen development is being carried out in stages, starting from the preparation of a business model, building partnerships, to preparing a commercialisation scheme. PLN EPI is opening cooperation opportunities through Hydrogen Gas Purchase Agreements (HGPA) and Joint Operation Schemes (KSO) with partners developing hydrogen production facilities. Through this scheme, PLN EPI will act as an aggregator and hydrogen supply provider for various sectors requiring low-carbon energy.
