Green Economy Can Be Main Engine for 8 Percent Growth, Says Bappenas

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy has stated that the green economy can be the main engine for achieving the economic growth target of 8 percent sustainably.

Through this transformation, Indonesia is projected to be able to create more than five million new green jobs by 2029, while also transforming more than 72 million jobs to become more productive, value-added and sustainable.

In this context, the private sector is considered to have a very important role in determining the success of national development by making the green economy one of the strategic directions that needs to be realised through collaboration between the government, business, academia, the media and the public.

He emphasised that no country has become advanced, developed and grown without the support of the business world.

“If the business world has concern for this nation and initiates the development of its nation, then this is a sign that we will grow, develop and be sustainable. Therefore, let us build the nation together. Economic growth and environmental preservation are not two things that sacrifice each other, but rather two pillars that reinforce each other,” he said.

Furthermore, Rachmat Pambudy stressed that the green economy is not merely about following global trends, but has become part of the national development architecture as set out in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045, the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029, and the Government Work Plan (RKP).

This commitment also supports the achievement of the net zero emission target by 2060 or sooner, while strengthening the implementation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s Astacita.

“The green economy current must not stop at growth centres, but must reach households, villages, coastal areas, and people’s economic hubs. For this reason, we must strengthen regulatory reform, open more inclusive financing access, and build green skills so that the public is ready to fill green jobs. In this way, we are building a stronger, more inclusive and more sovereign Indonesia towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” said the Head of Bappenas.
