Grebeg Sudiro: Symbol of Javanese and Chinese Cultural Acculturation in Solo

Solo (ANTARA) - Various activities have been held to enliven the Chinese New Year celebrations in Solo, Central Java Province.

The events include a variety of lanterns in assorted shapes and colours adorning the streets from City Hall to Pasar Gede, barongsai (lion dance) performances, and the Grebeg Sudiro cultural procession in the Pasar Gede area.

Held annually ahead of Chinese New Year, Grebeg Sudiro has become a symbol of Javanese and Chinese cultural acculturation among the residents of Sudiroprajan subdistrict in Solo.

The procession has also become a major attraction for Chinese New Year tourism in Solo.
