Grebeg Ageng Yaaqawiyyu 2026: Schedule, Traditions, and Economic Impact in Jatinom Klaten
The peak of the annual Grebeg Ageng Yaaqawiyyu Kiai Ageng Gribig event is scheduled to take place again on Friday, 31 July 2026. Held at Klampeyan Field, Jatinom Village, Klaten Regency, Central Java, this cultural celebration is planned to be attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto.
The General Chairman of the Kiai Ageng Gribig Heritage Preservation Foundation, KRAT Muh Ebta Tri Cahyo Dwijo Nagoro, emphasised that this activity is a tangible commitment to preserving ancestral heritage. He stated that tradition and culture are the nation’s identity, which must be maintained amidst the currents of globalisation. ‘Tradition teaches us that culture must not become merely a memory, but must be preserved and passed on to the next generation,’ said Ebta.
Conceptually, this year’s event retains the standard format of previous years. The series of events began in mid-July, marking the start of the month of Safar in the Javanese calendar. In addition to the main agenda, the public can also witness the Apem Mountain Parade travelling from the Jatinom District Office to the Jatinom Grand Mosque, as well as the handover procession of the gunungan from the sub-district leadership forum to the foundation.
Grebeg Yaaqawiyyu is not merely a ritual, but a driver of the local economy. Ebta revealed that during the week-long series of events, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), souvenir traders, and even parking attendants in Jatinom experience a significant surge in income. Public enthusiasm is also evident in the contribution to apem production. Last year, the number of apem distributed reached 55,000 pieces, equivalent to 5 tonnes. The supply of apem came not only from Jatinom residents but also from neighbouring areas such as Boyolali Regency.
Ebta concluded with a message that the values inherited from Eyang Kiai Ageng Gribig, such as mutual cooperation, respect for diversity, and charity, should become principles in daily life. ‘These are all teachings that we emulate to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation,’ he concluded.
