Guangzhou, China – The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has been included once again in the draft of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) for national economic and social development agenda, as well as the Chinese Government’s Work Report.

The development of the GBA has now been included in China’s Five-Year Plans for three consecutive periods and in the Government’s Work Report for ten consecutive years. In 2016, China’s 13th Five-Year Plan set targets to “promote the development of the GBA and cooperation platforms encompassing several major provinces.”

Statistical data demonstrates that the GBA economy has surged more than 60% during the 2016–2025 period. Within just one decade, the GBA region—comprising less than 0.6% of China’s land area—has evolved into an economic powerhouse contributing approximately one-ninth of the nation’s total GDP.

From major infrastructure development, policy breakthroughs, to cross-regional cooperation and inter-community relations, the GBA’s development reflects a journey from vision to concrete realisation whilst opening up continuously expanding future opportunities.
