Great Sale gathers more participants
JAKARTA: More tourist operators have confirmed their participation in the month-long Jakarta Great Sale program, said Pungky Bambang Purwadi, the chairman of the Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
A total of 25 malls, 20 department stores, 15 restaurants, 10 outlets and 15 hotels will be offering discounts on their wares and services during the annual program, starting from June 14 to July 14.
"With the support of a larger number of participants, we expect to earn revenue of Rp 3.1 trillion (US$334 million) this year, a 15 percent increase from last year's Rp 2.7 trillion that was generated during the program," Pungky said on Tuesday.
Last year's program failed to net a large number of visitors as some elite malls, including Plaza Senayan in Central Jakarta and Pondok Indah Mall in South Jakarta, refused to participate.
The Jakarta Great Sale 2002 will be officially launched on June 22 by Governor Sutiyoso in conjunction with the city's 475th anniversary celebration. -- JP
