Graphologist: Letter Left with Abandoned Baby in Pasar Minggu Could Have Been Written by Adult
JAKARTA — A piece of paper left with a baby discovered in a rice porridge cart at Pejaten Barat, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta was assessed by a graphologist as having unstable writing rhythm.
Graphologist Gusti Aju Dewi stated that the spacing between words and letters was inconsistent, the slant of the writing varied, and pen pressure was not consistently stable. The letter could have been written by an adult.
This is because factors such as writing practice can influence the development of motor skills and handwriting quality.
“For example, someone who has rarely written since childhood or has mainly done physical work using large muscles may have writing that appears untrained, despite being an adult,” said Gusti when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Analysing handwriting requires a multi-disciplinary perspective.
“Handwriting can only provide an indication of the level of motor development in writing, not the precise age of the writer,” she affirmed.
The characteristics found in this letter also indicated motor tension when the writer pressed the pen against the paper.
Specifically, changes in writing rhythm suggest the possibility of stress or hurried writing.
However, this does not apply if it has become the writer’s habit.
“These indicators only suggest the possibility of motor tension or emotional pressure, not a specific type of emotion such as fear or sadness,” explained Gusti.
She also noted that the letter was written by one person despite some variations in pressure or writing style.
“I found small changes in the document but there are no graphic indicators suggesting that there was a different writer,” she explained.
Previously, a baby wrapped in clothing and a blue blanket was discovered in a black shopping bag on top of a rice porridge cart on Jalan Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
