Jakarta, Kompas.com — A home renovation programme inaugurated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in Serdang Village, Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta, on Monday (16 March 2026), brought joy to Atun, 73 years old.

Beyond having her house repaired, she also gained hope of restoring her vision. When meeting Pramono directly during the home renovation programme’s inauguration, she expressed her desire to undergo cataract surgery.

Atun admitted that her eyesight had deteriorated significantly, making it difficult for her to read. She hoped to be able to read Surah Yasin again as she once could.

“What Bu Atun also requested happens to be that both her eyes can no longer read or see, and she wants to be able to read Surah Yasin,” said Pramono on Monday.

He also asked Jakarta Pusat’s Municipal Mayor, Arifin, to oversee the medical treatment process.

“I ask that it be monitored so that Bu Atun can read Surah Yasin again,” said Pramono.

Upon hearing Pramono’s offer, Atun expressed relief and her desire for her vision to improve.

“Thank God, thank you Governor. When I read, my mother tends to see shadows,” said Atun.

This programme is the result of collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government, the National Zakat Collection Board (Baznas) and Bazis DKI Jakarta, as well as support from various other parties.

The renovated houses are spread across five administrative areas of Jakarta: Central Jakarta with 10 units, South Jakarta with 11 units, West Jakarta with two units, East Jakarta with two units, and North Jakarta with one unit.

The home renovation programme targets low-income residents living in inadequate housing conditions.
