Grandmas fight burglars

BANDUNG, West Java: Three elderly women in the village of Mandalawangi, in Cipatat district, Bandung, apparently had no choice but to "take up arms" against three burglars who broke into their play station rental shop in the early hours of Tuesday.

Piah, 70, Yayah, 65 and Enok, 61, were no match for the three thieves who canvassed them with wooden sticks.

After they recovered, they reported the robbery to the local police and gave a description of the attackers.

Eight hours later police apprehended Arif Syaripudin, 18, Suhendar, 17 and Encang, 18, who were neighbors of the grandmas. Police confiscated a play station game console from the thieves.

Quoting the three elderly women, chief of Bandung Police detectives Adj. Comr. Suwondo Nainggolan said the fight began at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday when three men tried to attack Enok, who was going to the bathroom.

To cut a story short the other attackers managed to break into the house and faced the three grandmas who were ready to defend themselves with wooden sticks in hand.

The three grannies were knocked down by the thieves in seconds.

The thieves then made away with a play station game console.

"We caught them red handed when they were about to sell the play station," said Suwondo.

It is not known whether the three elderly women are relatives. -- Antara
