Grandfather in Central Kalimantan Tortures Grandson Over Toilet Habits
A grandfather in Mantangai District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan, has been arrested for physically abusing his four-year-old grandson. The victim suffered repeated physical violence because he was deemed to frequently defecate and urinate indiscriminately. Kapuas Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Danny Arrizal Saputra stated that the victim had been entrusted to the perpetrator by his biological mother since January 2026. During the time the victim lived with his grandfather, the parents did not send any money for the child’s needs. “The perpetrator is now in our custody. The victim began living with the suspect in January 2026. It was initially planned for only two months, but by June the child had not been picked up. During that entire period, no living expenses for the victim were ever sent,” Danny said on Saturday (4/7). Police investigations suggest that economic pressure was a contributing factor to the suspect’s emotional state. The grandfather works as a harvest labourer and still has to support his wife and two children. “Not only that, the victim’s behaviour of frequently urinating and defecating indiscriminately also often provoked the perpetrator’s anger,” he added. Consequently, every time the victim was perceived to have made a mistake, the suspect allegedly took out his anger through physical violence. The forms of abuse uncovered include pinching, hitting with a water hose and an iron-handled broom, pulling the victim’s genitals, and burning the victim’s body with a cigarette.
