Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman Designated as National Cultural Heritage, Aceh's Culture and Tourism Office Strengthens Religious Tourism
The Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) of Aceh has stated that it will continue to strengthen the preservation and management of the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman in Banda Aceh following its designation as a national cultural heritage site.
“We are very grateful for the designation of the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman Banda Aceh as a national cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture. This designation will further strengthen Aceh as one of the religious tourism destinations,” said the Head of the Tourism Marketing Division of Disbudpar Aceh, Akmal Fajar, on Thursday (26/3/2026).
He explained that Disbudpar Aceh, as part of the local government, will also focus on promoting the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman through various activities, such as the Ramadhan Festival and other religious attractions.
“We will position the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman Banda Aceh as one of the main destinations in tourism packages for visitors to Aceh,” he said.
The Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman is an iconic and historical destination that is worth visiting. In the mosque area, there are 12 giant electric umbrellas similar to those in the Prophet’s Mosque, as well as various facilities that provide comfort for visitors.
He added that during holiday periods, including Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman is visited by many tourists, both from within and outside Aceh Province, to worship and enjoy the beauty of the mosque, which is nicknamed the Verandah of Mecca.
His side believes that various promotional efforts and improvements to the tourism destination will be able to increase the number of domestic and international tourist visits to Aceh.
