Grand Hotel De Jogja Revived as Heritage Hotel
Jakarta — InJourney, or PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia, through InJourney Hospitality is reviving the Grand Hotel De Djokja name as part of strengthening its Heritage Collection line and introducing a historically-based accommodation experience in the Malioboro district of Yogyakarta.
“We are restoring the name Grand Hotel De Djokja as a form of historical preservation. This hotel has gone through various phases of the nation’s journey,” stated InJourney Hospitality Chief Executive Christine Hutabarat during a press conference at Gedung Sarinah on Monday.
She conveyed that the hotel will open on 16 March 2026, restoring its original identity from when it was first established in 1911.
The hotel had undergone several name changes, Christine explained, from Hotel Asahi during the Japanese occupation, Hotel Merdeka, Hotel Garuda, Natour Garuda, Ina Garuda, to most recently being known as Grand Inna Malioboro before undergoing revitalisation.
Management has prepared a book entitled “Viewing Indonesia from a Hotel Room Window” which recounts the hotel’s journey from 1911 to the present and will be available in every guest room.
The hotel comprises a total of 210 rooms, consisting of 16 heritage rooms that preserve the character of the original architecture, with the remainder housed in tower buildings.
One room is named the Sudirman Suite in tribute to General Sudirman, who once stayed in the hotel and whose desk as Supreme Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is displayed there.
In addition to room facilities, Grand Hotel De Djokja is equipped with a multipurpose hall (ballroom) with a capacity of approximately 800 to 900 persons, 18 meeting rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, and the Rosso restaurant which is currently under completion.
“We want guests not only to stay, but also to understand this hotel’s long journey within the context of Indonesian history,” she said.
During the opening period, room rates are offered starting from IDR 1,911,000 per night, corresponding with the year the hotel was established.
Grand Hotel De Djokja forms part of InJourney Hospitality’s strategy in building brand differentiation through the Heritage Collection, which emphasises preservation of historic buildings and strengthening of local identity amidst competition in the hospitality industry.
