According to Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh, following
his instruction that all prosecutors' offices at the district and
higher levels intensify their investigation into and prosecution
of graft cases, a great number of requests have been lodged,
demanding that probes into graft involving regional
administration officials be conducted.

It is understandable that the attorney general has seen such a
great number of requests. In the present era of regional
autonomy, all regions are competing to benefit from their
autonomy. Funds are available in great amounts but a lack of
professional human resources in the regions has lead to the
unwise and inefficient spending of this money. There are many
cases in which budget spending has been marked up.

Corruption is now a fact of life, not only in natural
resource-rich regions but also in areas where natural resources
are just enough for the people's own use.

Let us all now eradicate graft.
