Graft charge must be dropped: Lawyer

CIREBON, West Java: Three leading councillors at the Cirebon municipal council denied on Wednesday that they were involved in a Rp 1.3 billion (US$ 136,842) corruption scandal.

Dan Bildansyah, the lawyer for the three councillors, told the court that the prosecution had failed to present a clear case of corruption committed by the three councillors, and that the charges should be dropped.

The three councillors are Suryana, the chairman of Cirebon municipal council and his two deputies, Sunaryo and Haries Sutamien. The trial was adjourned until next week. -- JP
