Gradual Recovery, KAI: Trial Run of Bekasi–Cikarang Commuter Line Proceeds Smoothly

PT KAI has stated that the recovery of KRL services on the Bekasi–Cikarang line is showing development. Following the gradual evacuation of facilities and infrastructure, the first operational trial has been successfully carried out safely. Vice President (VP) of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 at 11.55 WIB, the CL-125.4008 trial train set passed through Bekasi Timur Station as part of testing the line’s readiness. “This trial is an important part in ensuring the readiness of infrastructure, signalling, and safety aspects before services resume. The entire process is carried out carefully, prioritising safety,” said Anne in her statement on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. Amidst this recovery process, the main focus remains on handling the victims. To date, there are 107 victims, consisting of 16 fatalities and 91 injuries. Of that number, 43 passengers have been allowed to go home, while the rest are still receiving treatment in hospital. “We extend our deepest condolences to all victims and the families left behind. Our current focus is to ensure all victims receive the best care and families obtain the information they need,” said Anne. KAI also assures that victims’ belongings found at the site will be inventoried and returned to families gradually through a coordinated mechanism. To support information needs, KAI has set up posts at two locations: at Bekasi Timur Station to assist victims’ families, and at Gambir Station to serve long-distance train passengers affected, including ticket refund processes. KAI emphasises that operational recovery will be carried out gradually, in line with evaluation and testing results that ensure all safety aspects are met. “KAI will continue to provide periodic updates on developments in the handling on the ground,” she said.
