Grace Natalie's Defence Regarding Response to Jusuf Kalla's Sermon: I Did Not Upload or Edit JK's Video
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Secretary of the PSI Patronage Council, Grace Natalie Louisa, has been reported to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency by dozens of Islamic mass organisations united under the Alliance of Islamic Organisations for Religious Harmony. Along with Ade Armando and Permadi Arya, Grace is accused of inciting and spreading hate speech through a post that clipped a video of Jusuf Kalla’s, or JK’s, sermon.
Grace claims her statement posted on her personal social media does not violate the law. Moreover, her statement was made without uploading the sermon video of Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President to her personal social media account. She admits to only posting a response to the content of JK’s viral sermon.
“Well, in that video of mine, I did not upload or repost Mr JK’s video, I also did not clip it, nor did I edit it. So I was just responding to Mr JK’s video, where I saw that there was a lot of controversy circulating in society,” Grace said to several journalists in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday (11/5/2026).
The MIND ID Commissioner assessed that the content of JK’s sermon is highly susceptible to misuse by certain groups seeking to legitimise violence. Therefore, in her social media statement, Grace suggested that JK provide clarification.
“That is roughly the essence of my video responding to the virality of Mr JK’s video. Once again, I did not upload, did not clip, did not edit, nor repost it,” she said.
Grace stated that JK’s sermon video had already gone viral on social media before her statement. In fact, there are parties who have reported JK regarding that sermon video.
“So there was already a lot of pro and contra, many elements of society protesting that video. Only then did I make a video to respond to the virality of his statement,” said Grace.
She is optimistic that the video she uploaded to social media does not violate the law. This is because there is no JK video in her social media upload.
“If it’s said to be editing, I see there are many narratives circulating, slandering, and so on… I think that’s not right,” she said.
Grace also opens herself up if there are parties who want to ask further about her video. However, that must be based on the video she uploaded to social media.
“So, as a good citizen, I am ready to be held accountable and I am optimistic there is no legal violation there,” she said.
