Grab to Implement 8% App Fee from 1 July 2026, Complying with President Prabowo's Directive
Grab Indonesia has announced that the implementation of an 8% profit-sharing scheme or application fee for its two-wheeled online motorcycle taxi (ojol) partners will take effect on 1 July 2026. Chief Executive Officer of Grab Indonesia Neneng Goenadi revealed that the company will implement the policy while maintaining a balance between protection for its driver partners, affordability for consumers, and the sustainability of the online motorcycle taxi transport ecosystem. “This step is a form of Grab Indonesia’s compliance with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, and is in line with the spirit of a people’s economy that encourages digital economic growth to provide broader and tangible benefits to the community,” she said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. She added that Grab, having operated in Indonesia for more than a decade, has played a significant role in supporting the country’s economic growth. “Grab Indonesia needs to emphasise that implementing this policy is not easy, so adjustments will be made with careful consideration to ensure services remain affordable for the public, the ecosystem remains sustainable, and income opportunities for Driver Partners are maintained,” she said. Among its contributions, Grab accounts for approximately 50% of the ride-hailing and online delivery industry, has created 4.6 million job opportunities through the digitalisation of MSMEs, and has realised programmes worth more than IDR 100 billion for its driver partners. “Going forward, Grab will continuously strengthen its commitment to Indonesia and continue to contribute to building an inclusive, reliable, and beneficial national online transportation service for the wider community,” Neneng concluded. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto signed Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026 to cut the income share taken by app companies from online motorcycle taxi drivers to 8%. “I say here, I do not agree with 10%, it must be below 10%,” President Prabowo said in his speech at the International Labour Day commemoration at the National Monument in Jakarta on Friday, 1 May. The President stressed that this policy was taken to defend the rights of online motorcycle taxi drivers who work hard and risk their lives on the road every day. According to him, the existing profit-sharing scheme has not yet provided justice for the drivers.
