Grab Sacks Driver Who Harassed and Threatened Passenger in Gambir
Grab Indonesia has conducted an investigation into a report of alleged sexual harassment by a GrabCar driver against a passenger in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta.
“The driver partner in question has been added to the blacklist for proven violation of the Grab Partner Code of Ethics,” said Director of Trust & Safety and Grab Support for Grab Indonesia, Radhi Juniantino, in a written statement on Saturday (28/3/2026).
“With this action, the individual cannot partner with Grab again. Regarding this incident, we convey our deepest concern to the passenger,” he said.
Grab claims to have received the report of the incident on 14 March 2026 and immediately followed up in accordance with procedures.
The company also offered transportation support with female driver partners, personal security, and assistance from a special team during the handling process.
“Our current focus is to ensure the passenger receives the support needed during this difficult time,” said Radhi.
He emphasised that Grab does not tolerate any form of violence, including sexual violence, whether verbal, physical, or non-physical.
The case previously went viral on social media on Friday (27/3/2026). Based on the victim’s account, the incident occurred on 14 March 2026 around 3:40 PM WIB during a trip from Gambir Station to a hotel in Jakarta.
“From the start, the driver often engaged in small talk. It felt like as it went on, the questions were getting more and more out of line,” the victim told Kompas.com.
The victim said she began to feel uncomfortable and eventually recorded the situation inside the car.
During the trip, the driver allegedly stopped the trip status in the app and drove the car to a quiet road.
The victim said the driver suddenly moved to the back seat, restrained her, and demanded her phone password with threats of shooting if not complied with.
“He was positioned on top of me and took my phone, and there I was restrained like being pinned down,” said the victim.
The victim tried to get out by banging on the car window until the door finally opened after pushing from inside.
At the time of the incident, nearby residents approached the car after hearing the commotion. The victim then managed to get out and was immediately helped by residents and local security personnel.
“In the end, I was secured by the building security guard nearby,” said the victim.
Meanwhile, the driver suspected of carrying out the act immediately fled.
