Jakarta — Ride-hailing and delivery services platform Grab Indonesia has recorded a surge in service demand of up to 35 per cent, particularly across the Jabodetabek area during the Ramadhan period and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

This surge has been identified as a contributing factor to longer wait times than normal for Grab service users in recent times.

“In recent weeks, demand for various Grab services across Jabodetabek has increased by up to 35 per cent compared with normal periods,” said Tyas Widyastuti, Director of Mobility, Food, and Logistics at Grab Indonesia, in a statement to Antara news agency in Jakarta on Friday.

Widyastuti noted that the increase has occurred alongside changes in mobility patterns during Ramadhan, with demand peaks from various services emerging at almost the same time.

“Particularly during office closing hours for GrabBike, the preparation period for breaking the fast for GrabFood, and the surge in deliveries through GrabExpress,” she said.

GrabExpress delivery demand has increased by up to 300 per cent ahead of Eid, driven by Ramadhan promotions on e-commerce platforms and the surge in hamper deliveries.

Meanwhile, approaching break-fast time, demand for GrabBike and GrabFood each increased by up to 25 per cent.

On the other hand, Widyastuti noted that although the number of driver partners remained generally stable, the average working hours of partners during Ramadhan became shorter, partly because some partners chose to rest for break-fast and avoid traffic congestion in the afternoon.

Additionally, extreme weather conditions that caused flooding on several road segments also impacted travel smoothness and order completion times in certain areas.

“Although the average working hours of partners are shorter, high demand continues to drive an increase in partner earnings of up to 40 per cent during the peak Ramadhan period,” said Widyastuti.

Grab has urged users to plan journeys or bookings in advance, especially during periods of high mobility.

For GrabBike, users are advised to make bookings earlier. Meanwhile, GrabFood and GrabExpress offer a “Scheduled Orders” feature and “Pick Up at GrabFood” option, which provide greater flexibility for users in accessing Grab services.

“We will continue to monitor the dynamics of user needs and partner activity patterns during the Ramadhan and Eid period,” said Widyastuti.

“We appreciate the feedback provided and are committed to ensuring that Grab services remain optimally accessible at every moment, particularly during periods of increased service demand,” she added.
