Grab on Prabowo's Directive to Reduce Ride-Hailing Commission to 8 Percent: Awaiting Official Regulation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Grab Indonesia has responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive regarding the reduction of commissions for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers to application providers from the previous 20 percent to 8 percent. The new provision is stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers. Grab Indonesia’s Chief Executive Officer, Neneng Goenadi, stated that the company respects the directive conveyed by the President and is committed to supporting the government’s vision in improving public welfare. Nevertheless, Grab is still awaiting the official issuance of the Perpres to further study the details of the policy. Neneng assessed that the proposed change in commission structure represents a fundamental shift in how digital platforms function as marketplaces. “We will collaborate with the government and relevant stakeholders to strive to implement this change,” she said. Previously, President Prabowo, during the 2026 International Labour Day celebration at Monas, stated that the ojol driver commission cut would be reduced to 8 percent. The issuance of Perpres 27/2026 regulating that provision was also mentioned as one of the gifts for workers on the 2026 World Labour Day commemoration. “Earlier, the income distribution was 80 percent for drivers, now it becomes at least 92 percent for drivers,” said Prabowo at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). On that occasion, he also ordered that ojol drivers must receive a number of safety nets such as work accident insurance. “They must be given work accident insurance, will be given BPJS Health, health insurance,” Prabowo stated.
