The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly driving the transformation of digital services across various sectors. Grab, known as a superapp company, has introduced a range of AI-based innovations designed to simplify users’ daily activities while supporting the business development of its partners.

At the GrabX 2026 event, Grab announced the launch of 13 new AI-based features that will strengthen the app’s role as a superapp and an intelligent everyday guide for people in Southeast Asia.

Grab’s Chief Product Officer, Philipp Kandal, explained that these innovations are designed to help users complete various daily activities more practically through AI technology support.

He stated that the technology can be utilised by various parties, from consumers needing service recommendations, business operators wanting to monitor business operations, to driver partners requiring efficient driving guidance.

“As a product developer, I believe AI should work hardest for those who need it most. We want the Grab app to be a daily guide that helps handle various manual tasks so users can focus more on their daily activities,” said Philipp.

The introduced innovations cover services for everyday life, travel experiences, and business empowerment. All these features are supported by the Grab Intelligence Layer, an AI infrastructure developed from analysing billions of trips and orders on the Grab platform.

Simplifying users’ daily activities

Several new features are focused on helping users navigate urban daily activities more easily. One of them is Group Ride, which allows up to four people to share a ride in one vehicle with automatic fare splitting based on distance and travel time. This feature is now available in Indonesia along with several other Southeast Asian countries.

Grab also introduces GrabMaps for Consumers, an AI-based mapping system that helps users determine departure times, travel routes, and available facilities near destinations, such as parking areas or electric vehicle charging stations.

Additionally, there is the Grab More feature, which allows users to order food from multiple nearby restaurants in a single delivery without additional delivery fees. This feature is also available to users in Indonesia.

For a more personalised experience, Grab has developed the Grab AI Assistant, a digital assistant that can help users plan activities, find food recommendations, and compile shopping lists. This feature is currently available in Singapore and is planned to launch in Indonesia by the end of 2026.

Grab is also expanding its services to support users’ travel needs, including tourists travelling in Southeast Asia.

The Personalised Travel Experience feature will help users prepare for trips, from reminders for travel documents and airport information to navigation guides upon arrival at the destination. This feature is scheduled to launch in Indonesia in the third quarter of this year.

Additionally, Grab introduces Discover by Grab, a community-based culinary recommendation platform that showcases popular dining spots in a city. Users can directly order food, make restaurant reservations, or book rides to the location via the app.

Grab also launches the GrabStays hotel booking service, which is first introduced in Singapore and will be gradually expanded to other Southeast Asian countries.

To simplify cross-border transactions, Grab has developed GrabPay for Travel, which allows users to pay using debit or credit cards via QR code scanning at various merchants in Southeast Asia.

Assisting business and driver partners

AI innovations are also aimed at helping business partners and driver partners develop their businesses.

Grab introduces Virtual Store Manager, a computer vision-based technology that uses in-store cameras to monitor business operations, including cleanliness conditions, customer numbers, and visitor queues.

Meanwhile, the Cloud Printer feature, already available in Indonesia, allows orders from the Grab app to be automatically printed in restaurant kitchens, helping to speed up food processing.

Grab also develops Tap to Pay, which enables merchant partners’ phones to function as contactless payment devices to accept card or QR code transactions.

For driver partners, Grab introduces the Driver AI Assistant, a digital assistant that provides real-time guidance on navigation, platform policies, and various operational activities during work.

Grab states that these innovations are part of the company’s efforts to continuously develop technology that supports everyday life for society while helping business partners seize opportunities in the digital economy era.
