Grab Drivers Report Mixed Results After 8% Commission Policy Takes Effect in July

The implementation of an 8 per cent application commission for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) partners has begun to elicit a range of responses from drivers in the field. The impact of the policy is considered varied, influenced by several factors including demand levels, operational hours, and each partner’s strategy in accepting orders.

Several Grab partners in different regions have reported noticing changes since the 8 per cent commission scheme was introduced. However, their experiences are not entirely uniform. Some drivers have recorded an increase in income, others say their earnings have remained stable, while a portion still face a slowdown in orders due to seasonal conditions.

One Grab partner from Jakarta, Alam Selamet, compared his earnings records for one week before and after the new commission scheme was applied. He noted that the results are still influenced by how drivers manage their activities in the field. “After this 8 per cent policy, thank God there has been an increase. The key is to stay enthusiastic about delivering and picking up orders,” he said on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

A similar account came from Untung, a driver-partner operating in the Bekasi area. He compared the number of trips and income on two different dates after the policy took effect. According to him, changes in income cannot be attributed solely to the commission rate. The condition of orders received by each driver is also an important factor in determining the outcome.

“With the 8 per cent commission in effect, my income has increased, not decreased,” he stated.

Meanwhile, a Grab partner from Medan, Fredy Tarigan, also reported better earnings after the 8 per cent commission scheme was implemented. He believes drivers need to actively seek order opportunities and not rely solely on one particular condition. “In my opinion, this 8 per cent is optimal, quite good. The income is better, it keeps going up.”

These varied experiences indicate that the impact of the 8 per cent commission is not uniform for all driver-partners. Differences in operational areas, service demand levels, and each driver’s work patterns are factors that influence the amount of income earned. Additionally, operational timing is considered an important aspect. Drivers who take advantage of peak demand hours have a greater chance of securing more trips compared to those operating during periods of lower customer activity.
