Grab Denies Rumours of Exiting Indonesia
Grab Indonesia has denied rumours suggesting the company plans to leave the country. The firm stressed that the information being circulated is untrue. “Grab asserts that the rumour regarding plans to exit Indonesia is not true,” said Neneng Goenadi, CEO of Grab Indonesia, in a written statement received on Thursday (4/6/2026). Grab confirmed it remains committed to conducting business and strengthening its contribution in Indonesia. The company also emphasised it will continue to follow the direction of government policy and support the development of the national digital economy. According to Neneng, Indonesia is a crucial ecosystem for Grab. “We have been present for Indonesia for more than 10 years and we are committed to continuing to grow and take an active role in supporting the lives of Indonesian people,” she said. Neneng affirmed that Grab will continue to collaborate with the government, partners, and all stakeholders. Previously, there was a buzz on social media about news that the Singapore-based company was considering reducing operations or even exiting the Indonesian ride-hailing market. This information was revealed on the Instagram account @ecommurz. The rumour emerged after the company was said to be evaluating the financial impact of a planned 8% service commission for two-wheeled transport services. It was stated that in internal company discussions, the main focus was directed at efforts to minimise the impact of this policy on the business. Several options being considered include imposing substantial additional fees on both consumers and partners. However, internal company projections warned that the policy could potentially suppress demand, considering Indonesia’s increasingly challenging economic conditions, a shrinking middle class, and consumer preference for lower prices. Furthermore, one of the final options reportedly under discussion was a partial reduction of operations, leading to the possibility of Grab exiting the ride-hailing market in Indonesia.
