Grab Asserts It Has No Plans to Exit Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The app-based online transportation service platform Grab Indonesia has asserted that rumours suggesting the company will exit Indonesia are untrue.
“Grab emphasises that the rumours regarding plans to leave Indonesia are incorrect,” said Neneng Goenosty, CEO of Grab Indonesia, in a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Neneng stated that Indonesia has been a vital ecosystem for Grab for over 10 years.
“For more than a decade, Grab has been part of the daily lives of millions of Indonesians,” said Neneng.
She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continued growth and playing an active role in supporting the lives of the Indonesian people.
“This commitment is reflected in Grab’s contribution to approximately 50 per cent of the ride-hailing and online delivery industry, its support in creating 4.6 million job opportunities through the digitalisation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as Grab’s ‘Grab for Indonesia’ programme worth more than Rp100 billion for driver partners,” she said.
Previously, rumours had circulated on the internet that Grab was evaluating the financial impact of an 8 per cent commission cap on online transportation services, following Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026 regarding income deductions for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver partners, which was announced in early May.
The rumours suggested that Grab was discussing imposing higher fees on both consumers and partners, despite estimates that such a policy could trigger a decline in demand.
Furthermore, one of the final options reportedly being discussed was a partial withdrawal and Grab’s exit from the Indonesian online transportation market.
Responding to this, Neneng ensured that Grab always respects the directives and policies of the Indonesian government and is committed to operating in alignment with the national agenda to strengthen an inclusive and sustainable people-based digital economy.
“Grab will continue to collaborate with the government, partners, and all stakeholders, because for Grab, Indonesia is not merely an ecosystem, but a home where we grow together with the community,” she said.
