Grab and Gojek Announce 8% App Commission for Ride-Hailing Drivers Starting 1 July 2026
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A new 8% application commission will take effect on 1 July 2026, meaning ride-hailing drivers will receive 92% of fares, up from the previous 80%. The announcement of the new profit-sharing scheme follows a directive from President Prabowo Subianto on Labour Day, 1 May 2026.
“Grab Indonesia announces that the company will begin implementing an 8% profit-sharing scheme for two-wheeled passenger transport services, namely GrabBike. This policy will be effective from 1 July 2026,” said Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi in an official statement on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
“This step is a form of Grab Indonesia’s compliance with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, and is in line with the spirit of a people’s economy that encourages digital economic growth to provide broader and more tangible benefits for the community. Grab Indonesia is committed to implementing this policy while maintaining a balance between protecting driver partners, service affordability for consumers, and the sustainability of the online motorcycle taxi ecosystem in Indonesia,” she explained.
She also noted that implementation is not easy, so adjustments will be made to ensure services remain affordable for the public, the ecosystem is sustainable, and drivers’ income opportunities are maintained.
“This commitment to maintaining balance is in line with Grab’s journey over more than a decade as part of the daily lives of millions of Indonesians. This is reflected in Grab’s contribution to around 50% of the ride-hailing and online delivery industry, its support in creating 4.6 million job opportunities through the digitalisation of MSMEs, and the Grab for Indonesia programme worth more than IDR 100 billion for driver partners. Going forward, Grab will continue to strengthen its commitment to Indonesia and contribute to building an inclusive, reliable, and beneficial national online transport service for the wider community,” Neneng said.
Similarly, Gojek announced it will implement the new commission scheme on 1 July 2026, applicable only to its two-wheeled passenger transport service, GoRide.
“Starting 1 July 2026, Gojek will implement an 8% application commission for two-wheeled online motorcycle taxi passenger services, or GoRide. This is our effort to continue improving the welfare of our online motorcycle taxi driver partners,” said Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo, Deputy CEO and Deputy Director of GoTo, in an official statement.
GoTo also stated that implementing the new profit-sharing scheme is not easy and will present challenges for its two-wheeled business line. The company noted that adjustments are necessary, considering aspects such as maintaining driver partners’ income opportunities, service price affordability for customers, and ecosystem sustainability.
Coordination with the government and various stakeholders is also ongoing to ensure the policy is implemented smoothly and provides benefits for drivers and ecosystem sustainability.
