PT Toyota Astra Motor (PT TAM) has implemented various feedback from stakeholders, including drivers and GR Yaris enthusiasts, to enhance the stability and handling of the GR Yaris.

Marketing Director Hiroyuki Oide stated the refresh aims to deliver a more enjoyable driving experience. “Feedback from various parties, both drivers and GR Yaris enthusiasts, has enabled GR to improve stability and handling for greater agility and responsiveness to driver commands,” he said in a press release.

The company’s response includes the GR Exclusive New Steering Wheel Design. Oide explained that certain racing conditions require maintaining a constant grip on the steering wheel without changing hand position or touching control buttons. The smaller steering wheel improves hand movement and optimal grip with a comfortable palm design for better rotation, enhancing vehicle control and driver confidence.

“This improvement aligns with the GR Yaris Rally2’s dominance in the opening series of the national sprint and rally championships this year, while spreading the joy and excitement of GR to more people,” he added.

Additionally, World Rally Championship (WRC) events globally contributed to the GR Yaris updates. The GR team also refined the Electric Power Steering (EPS) through software and component modifications to expand detection range, ensuring optimal performance under heavy workloads.

New tyres, developed through rigorous testing, play a crucial role in vehicle handling. Revised tread patterns, internal structure, and rubber compounds significantly improve control and stable performance on both roads and race tracks, meeting Indonesian standards. Optimisation of front and rear shock absorber damping characteristics aims to maximise tyre performance.
