Jakarta – The Indonesian Youth Movement for Community Care (GPPMI) has conveyed full appreciation and support to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for his firm, professional, and law-enforcement-oriented leadership in handling the alleged criminal assault case involving members of the Mobile Brigade against a student in Tual City, Maluku Province, which resulted in the victim’s death.

“We express our full appreciation and support to the Police Chief for his commitment to transparent and professional law enforcement. The Police Chief’s leadership demonstrates that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) continues to move towards a modern institution trusted by society,” said GPPMI Founder Robertus Juan Pratama to reporters on Friday, 27 February 2026.

According to Juan, GPPMI views the Police Chief’s commitment to ensuring transparent, objective, and accountable legal processes as a tangible implementation of the rule-of-law principle (rechtstaat) as mandated in Article 1, Paragraph (3) of the 1945 Indonesian Constitution, which affirms that Indonesia is a law-based state.

In the perspective of constitutional and administrative law, Juan stated that the Police Chief’s action in ordering professional case handling whilst guaranteeing transparency in legal proceedings constitutes an implementation of the general principles of good governance, particularly the principles of legal certainty, accountability, and transparency.

“GPPMI believes that the Police Chief’s policy in handling this case demonstrates that the police institution will not tolerate abuse of authority by state officials. The approach taken reflects Polri’s strong commitment to maintaining the supremacy of law whilst protecting the rights of society,” Juan emphasised.

Juan revealed that GPPMI is convinced that the handling of this case has important significance in strengthening the national law enforcement system, particularly in upholding the principle of equality before the law.

Therefore, the Police Chief’s firm step in ensuring legal proceedings against the police officer involved is a manifestation of the principle that law applies to all parties without exception.

“The Police Chief’s firmness demonstrates that the police institution has a strong commitment to justice-based law enforcement. Firm action against errant officers is an important step in maintaining the integrity of the police institution,” he explained.
