GPEI asks govt to exempt exporters from warehouse fees
JAKARTA(Antara): The Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI) is urging the government to free goods intended for export from warehouse fees so that exporters do not need to send their goods to seaports on the day of their shipment, a spokesman said.
"The sending of goods to the harbor on the day they will be loaded into ships causes long traffic jam on roads leading to Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta," GPEI chairman Amirudin Saud said Tuesday.
Many exporters had resorted to the practice in order to avoid having to keep their goods in harbor warehouses and pay warehouse fees, he said.
If exporters kept their goods at port warehouse they would have to pay not only tens of thousands of rupiah per day per container but also the high cost of taking out their goods from the warehouses for loading into ships.(***)
