As is known, as of Tuesday evening, 19 May 2026, seven Indonesian nationals have reportedly been abducted by the Israeli army. Ships sailing toward waters off Gaza were intercepted in the Mediterranean Sea. The preliminary information we have from the tracker team in Israel is that they will be taken to Ashdod port in Israel. So far we do not yet know the exact condition of the colleagues from the delegation who were abducted.

Republika’s Managing Editor, Budi Raharjo, said they are continuing to seek information about the condition of two of its journalists, Bambang Noroyono, alias Abeng, and Thoudy Badai. They also received word that the abducted Indonesians were being taken to Ashdod.

“Information from media outlets in Israel says they will be taken to Ashdod. But as of now we are still waiting; of course this information is very important for us, not just for Republika,” Budi explained.

Budi added that they are coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others to speed up the repatriation of the Indonesian volunteers. He is also coordinating with the team stationed in the Ashdod area, Israel.

“Actually we also hope for support from the advocacy team (in Ashdod). So when there is an interception by the Zionist army and they are taken there, the advocacy team will move and then convey information to us,” he added.
