Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) says international advocacy steps are being prepared to accompany Indonesian citizens (WNI) and journalists detained by the Israel Defence Forces during the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 humanitarian mission to Gaza.

GPCI Director Irvan Nugraha said legal accompaniment will be provided through an international network of lawyers.

“Through international lawyers. The accompaniment will be carried out by these lawyers,” Irvan told Republika.co.id when asked about advocacy steps regarding the detention of Indonesian nationals and journalists by Israel, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

However, when asked for more details about the identity of the international lawyers in question, Irvan did not provide a detailed explanation.

Earlier, Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) revealed that around 40 humanitarian ships in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 mission had been detained by the Israeli army or Israel Defence Forces (IDF). In total, 57 ships were sailing to Gaza with humanitarian aid.

This was stated by GPCI Director Ahmad Juwaini when meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Hidayat Nur Wahid, at Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

“To this morning, in the Global Freedom Flotilla records that were presented to us, there are about 40 ships detained, and 332 humanitarian activists and journalists from various countries have been abducted and are currently in detention,” Ahmad said.

He explained the initial convoy departed from Barcelona, Spain, on 12 April 2026. But when entering Greek waters, the first wave of participating ships was intercepted by Israeli forces and more than 170 people were arrested.

“About two to three days later they were released. Two people were released after almost 12 days in detention,” he said.

The mission then continued from Marmaris, Turkey, with the Indonesian delegation that had joined. However, on Monday afternoon around 15:00 WIB, the participating ships were intercepted again by Israeli forces.

Of the nine Indonesians who joined the humanitarian voyage to Gaza, five are reported to have been detained, including several Indonesian journalists. They are Bambang Noroyono, Thoudy Badai Rifan Billah, Andre Prasetyo Nugroho, Rahendro Herubowo, and Andi Angga Prasadewa.
