GP Ansor Tangerang Confirms Bahar bin Smith Assault Victims Demanded Rp2 Billion
Tangerang — Midyani, the head of the Tangerang City Branch Leadership of GP Ansor, confirmed that Bahar bin Smith’s assault victims, Ridha, and his wife Fitri Yulita, had at one point asked Bahar bin Smith for Rp 2 billion during the mediation process. ‘The information I received from the complainant, Mrs Fitri, and the victim Ridha, related to immaterial damages,’ Midyani told Kompas.com on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He said the request emerged during the mediation. ‘During the mediation facilitated by the Metro Tangerang City Police, the victim was first asked to itemise the material losses suffered as a result of the assault. If I’m not mistaken, the material losses were around Rp 270 million,’ he said. The police present as the go-between recorded the request. However, according to Midyani, Bahar bin Smith’s side thought the amount was too small and proposed rounding it to Rp 300 million. ‘The police noted it, if I remember correctly. Rp 270 million was too small, according to the LBH lawyer,’ he explained. The victim’s wife, who overheard the discussion, grew upset and immediately stated a higher amount. ‘When offered Rp 300 million, the complainant replied, I want Rp 2 billion, at least,’ she said. For Midyani, the Rp 2 billion demand was not extortion but a form of immaterial damages or losses that cannot be quantified in material terms. ‘That is because there are losses that cannot be calculated, such as immaterial damages, honour, and so on,’ he explained. In addition, the victim’s statements were made openly in the mediation forum, which was attended by lawyers from both sides and mediators from the police. ‘If there is extortion, there must be coercion or threats. This was disclosed openly during the negotiation, with lawyers and police also present there,’ he added.
