Tangerang, CNN Indonesia – The Tangerang City branch leadership of the Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) affirmed that it accepts the apology from suspect Bahar bin Smith regarding the alleged assault case. However, GP Ansor stipulated that Bahar must still be held accountable for his actions through the full legal process. GP Ansor Tangerang City also delivered an open message to National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, President Prabowo Subianto, and the House of Representatives to give special attention to the handling of the case.

Bahar Smith’s apology, along with three other suspects, was previously conveyed through a recorded video. In the video, they expressed their apologies to the victims and GP Ansor Tangerang City for the assault they committed.

Tangerang City GP Ansor Branch Chairman Midyani said his organization accepts the apology on the condition that the suspects still undergo legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations. He stressed that there is no room for resolution through restorative justice mechanisms in this case.

“Regarding Bahar Smith and associates’ request, GP Ansor Tangerang City’s stance is to forgive on one condition: Bahar bin Smith must first be held accountable for his actions by undergoing the applicable legal process in Indonesia,” Midyani firmly stated on Friday (2/13).

According to Midyani, the victims and GP Ansor want the case resolved through the legal system until all perpetrators serve their sentences. He also highlighted the lack of significant progress in the case handling since the report was filed in September 2025.

“I think if the Tangerang City Police are no longer capable of handling this case, just hand it over to the Regional Police or National Police Headquarters,” he said.

Additionally, Midyani said the decision to suspend the suspects’ detention has caused disappointment among the victims and their supporters. He hopes police authorities will give more serious attention to the case.

“Regarding the suspension of detention for Bahar bin Smith and the 3 other suspects, I hope the National Police Chief will take note. And to President Prabowo Subianto — these victims are also your people, sir,” Midyani said.

GP Ansor together with Banser Tangerang City also threatened to hold a second peaceful demonstration in front of the Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Headquarters. The protest is planned as a form of pressure to ensure law enforcement is carried out fairly and transparently.

“There is a possibility that Ansor and Banser colleagues will hold a second peaceful demonstration, and the demands may be even greater — particularly directed at the Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Chief, Sr. Comr. Jauhari,” he said.
