Gowa Regent's Right of Inquiry Escalates, Reported to National Police Criminal Investigation Unit

The right of inquiry process against Gowa Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang has escalated, with a community complaint filed to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) on Thursday, 2 July 2026. The legal representative for the Gowa community, Muallim Bahar, stated that the report covers three main issues, including the alleged misuse of the special committee’s (Pansus) budget for the inquiry and the broadcasting of material related to alleged immoral acts. “We are representatives of the Gowa Regency community, South Sulawesi Province, present at Police Headquarters regarding a criminal report on the entire series of the right of inquiry process,” Bahar said. He explained that the Integrated Police Service Centre (SPKT) directed them to file a community complaint. The second issue concerns the live broadcast of discussions regarding alleged immoral conduct involving the Regent. Bahar argued that such material should not have been openly presented to the public as it pertains to private matters. “Even in general courts, hearings on immoral cases are closed to the public, divorce hearings are closed to the public, yet the Gowa DPRD exposed it. This is what we consider a violation, which is why we are reporting the institution,” he stated. The complaint also includes allegations of spreading false information or hoaxes via social media related to the inquiry’s subject matter. Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang has also previously objected to the inquiry’s discussion material, asserting that the DPRD’s oversight function should remain focused on public policy and governance.
