Gowa Regent Unfazed by Inquiry, Chooses to Focus on Governance

Gowa Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang has stated that the ongoing process of the Gowa DPRD’s Special Committee (Pansus) Inquiry will not disrupt her duties as regional head in providing services to the community. She emphasised that she continues to respect the inquiry process while focusing on running government programmes and fulfilling political promises to the public. “The Pansus inquiry hearings are proceeding and we respect that. As regent, I remain focused on my duties as head of the region, especially since there is still much work to be done for the welfare of the people of Gowa,” she said on Sunday, 5 July 2026. She stated that the right of inquiry is part of the democratic mechanism, and she is prepared to attend the committee’s summons if asked to provide information. However, Sitti expressed hope that the committee’s discussions would remain focused on the oversight function regarding local government policies, rather than on personal issues. “I greatly respect the duties and obligations of council members in carrying out their oversight function, but I firmly object if the inquiry’s discussions deviate into personal realms unrelated to public policy,” she said. Husniah also declared her readiness to face any legal proceedings related to the polemics arising during the inquiry hearings. Sitti believes every individual has a right to privacy that must be respected and should not be made a subject of discussion if it is not related to the administration of government. Previously, Husniah reported two witnesses from the Gowa DPRD Inquiry Pansus hearings, identified by the initials ZA and AH, to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) over alleged defamation and providing false testimony during the proceedings.
