Gowa Regent on Inquiry into Alleged Abuse of Authority: Civil Servants Are Uncomfortable

Gowa Regent, South Sulawesi, Husniah Talenrang, has stated that state civil apparatus (ASN) in her region are feeling uncomfortable amid the uproar over the Gowa DPRD’s right of inquiry regarding alleged abuse of authority in the revocation of doctoral scholarships, alleged irregularities in the procurement of free school uniforms, and alleged disgraceful conduct. Husniah revealed the condition of the civil servants who are uneasy at work after the Head of the Transportation Department, Agussalim Harahap, appeared as a witness at the Gowa DPRD inquiry hearing. “It is still running as usual, although indeed the ASN feel uncomfortable with the issues of uproar created by certain parties,” Husniah told reporters on Monday (6/7). Husniah said she always emphasises to all ASN to carry out their respective duties. Therefore, according to her, amidst the current circulating issues, it does not become an obstacle for the government in serving the needs of the Gowa community. “As the regional head, I always emphasise coordination with ASN to carry out their respective duties. Do not let anything be left behind, especially not achieving the realisation target in the 3 months leading to the second quarter. Just pray that everything runs smoothly,” she said. Regarding the issue that the Gowa Regent’s official residence will be sealed, Husniah responded that there are rules that must be followed and it is not easy to seal something that is state property. “Of course, this sealing, until now, thank God, we have been able to anticipate it, it did not happen as rumoured out there,” she said. Husniah urged the public not to be provoked by parties trying to create unrest in Gowa Regency. “Please wait for the results of this special committee. Of course, as the regional head, we are ready to be open to the public. The proof is that now I am responding to everything and accepting everything, appreciating the work of colleagues in the DPR,” she said. “Of course, with a wiser head and prioritising the interests of the community,” continued Husniah.
