The Gowa Regency Government, South Sulawesi, has distributed 200 nutritious food packages to strengthen efforts in accelerating the reduction of stunting through various nutritional intervention programmes for target groups. The Deputy Regent of Gowa, Darmawangsyah Muin, stated in Gowa on Wednesday that the 200 packages were distributed to families at risk of stunting, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers in the Bajeng District.

“I am present personally to ensure that the steps taken by the Gowa Regency Government in handling stunting are truly implemented and felt by the community,” he said. Darmawangsyah Muin, who also serves as the Chairman of the Gowa Regency Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TPPS), noted that the distribution in this area marks the first location for the implementation of this programme in collaboration with the Gowa Regency Population and Family Planning Office (DPPKB).

He emphasised that his presence in the Bajeng District demonstrates the local government’s commitment to ensuring that stunting handling programmes are carried out extensively down to the district and village levels. According to him, the issue of stunting is a primary focus for the Gowa Regency Government as it directly relates to the quality of human resources and the region’s future.

“Therefore, collaboration from all parties is required to ensure that children receive adequate nutritional intake from the womb through their growth period,” he said. “This is what we continue to consider and discuss together so that the stunting problem can be resolved in Gova Regency. This programme of providing 200 nutritious food packages is an initial step that we will continue to evaluate and develop.”

He explained that the distributed aid was sourced from his personal funds along with his family as a form of care for maternal and child health in Gowa Regency. The aid packages contain eggs, milk, vitamins, and various basic necessities intended to help meet the nutritional needs of the beneficiary families.

“This is a form of care and moral responsibility towards the future of Gowa Regency’s generation. The value may be modest, but I hope it can provide benefits and serve as an encouragement for us all to continue moving together in preventing and reducing stunting rates,” he added. Darmawangsyah emphasised that stunting reduction efforts are in line with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, which emphasise the importance of early prevention through meeting the nutritional needs of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers.
