Gowa DPRD Completes Inquiry Committee, Regent Faces Impeachment Threat

The Special Committee (Pansus) on the Right of Inquiry of the Gowa Regency DPRD, South Sulawesi, has officially completed its investigation. The committee’s report, containing eight recommendations, has been submitted to the DPRD leadership for further processing. Committee Chairman Kasim Sila stated that the next step is for the leadership to distribute the report to all 45 council members for review. The members will then decide whether to proceed with the right to express an opinion, a political mechanism that could lead to a proposal for the regent’s dismissal. Kasim noted that based on initial reactions, a majority of members appear to support moving forward, though he refrained from pre-empting the official decision. The eight recommendations are directed at law enforcement, the Gowa Regency Government, and the DPRD leadership, with one specifically requesting the police investigate alleged corruption in a free school procurement programme. The inquiry follows a dramatic session where Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang walked out after refusing to answer questions individually, insisting on receiving them collectively to provide a written response. Her legal counsel argued that her rights under Article 128 of Law Number 1 of 2024 were not fulfilled, while the committee maintained it could draw conclusions regardless of her participation.
