Govt urged to draft education plan
JAKARTA: Golkar chairman Akbar Tandjung urged the government
on Tuesday to establish a master plan on the use of 20 percent of
the state budget for education as stipulated by the Constitution.
Speaking at the party's national congress, Akbar said
education must be given serious attention in view of a failing
education system and poor pay rates for teachers.
He said the country was experiencing a severe lack of quality
human resources, resulting in its inability to recover from the
economy crisis.
He also added that his party proposed that every regency in
the nation must have at least one community school to ensure the
quality of education.
Community schools are vocational institutions offering
diplomas for graduates.--JP
