Govt to revive 6-day working week

PEKANBARU, Riau: State Minister of Administrative Reforms Feisal Tamin said on Thursday the government would revive the six-day working week, to better public services and anticipate global competition.

"The current five-day working week is ineffective as we need to compete with developed countries," he said.

Tamin said his office had issued letters requiring regional administrations across the country to reintroduce the six-day working week.

He explained the five-day working week was currently implemented in Jakarta, so as to avoid traffic congestion there. However, other cities also demanded the same conditions, reducing the country's capability to compete globally, he added.

The standard working week here comprises 30.5 hours per week, while in Vietnam, the standard working week comprises 50 hours. -- Antara
